MLK 50 Event, April 4th

ATD Ireland and the Unity in the Community Youth Group invite you to join us from 5:30pm on the 4th April at Custom House Quay beside the famine statues.  The gathering will include speeches, music, songs, common gestures, and a minute of silence at 6.01pm to remember the great man.

Guest speakers include The Lord Mayor, Peter McVerry, Peter Sheridan and many more.

On April 4th 1968 at 6.01pm Dr. Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated in Memphis, USA.  He was assassinated while taking part in a massive non-violent march to Washington DC.  The march was part of the  Memphis Sanitation Workers strike for a decent wage and the ‘poor peoples campaign’.

The dreamer was shot dead but his dreams for social justice lived on.

“The curse of poverty has no justification in our age…The time has come for us to civilise ourselves by the total, direct and immediate abolishment of poverty” MLK

In 2018 the curse of poverty is still upon us and still has no justification in our time but we still dream, as MLK did, of a day when we reach the goal of its total, direct and immediate abolishment. Join us and give voice to your dreams on the 4th of April.

Don’t forget we are still welcoming submission for the Ireland, I Have a Dream project visit the ‘Take Part’ section for more information
